Goals

Accomplishments

NTEU's every action is geared toward creating an employee-centered workplace that produces high quality public services including recognition of the value of federal service; respect for employee rights as workplace participants and as citizens; professional development and employee growth; and employee involvement in all workplace decisions. To continue setting standards for labor relations in the federal sector, NTEU employs:
  • Aggressive contract negotiations, enabling NTEU to expand employee rights
  • Effective lobbying and testimony before Congress
  • Expert litigation and job-site representation, protecting employee rights and ensuring fair treatment of workers
  • Pro-active public relations on behalf of NTEU members and, indeed, all federal employees
  • A comprehensive range of membership benefits
Through NTEU's actions, all federal workers have enjoyed greater rights and benefits. The union is responsible for:
  • First negotiated alternative work schedules for employees
  • First nationwide labor-management program for on-site care
  • First contract to provide impartial arbitration for adverse personnel actions
  • First comprehensive proposal to Congress for reform of the Federal Employees Health Benefits Program
  • First federal union lawsuit challenging the President of the United States, and the first to win $500 million in back pay for federal workers
  • First joint labor-management committee for employee monetary awards
  • Stands on pending legislation
