TIME, TIME, TIME...CHANGE, CHANGE, CHANGE...
“Without Change Our Souls Grow Stale” original quote by Brenda Fox
What is the meaning of life here on earth? I sure don't know the answer to that question so I'll leave it up to the great religions of our time to answer it. One question I can answer is that there is one thing that we can all rely on to stay the same and that is “change”. As one great Guru once said “Life is Mutable”. That means life always changes. I think we all can agree with that. Sometimes things change for the better and sometimes for the worse. I think the best that we can hope for in this transient life is that most of the major changes are for the better, but realize at the same time that we'll all have to endure some changes for the worse. Even changes for the worse may actually be an opportunity for a new beginning although we cannot see it or understand it at the time it is happening.
Certain changes are universal like the death of a loved one, or issues related to aging or our own mortality. Some changes are more personal like consequences of our own choices and actions. Remember, every action provokes a reaction. In other words “what goes around comes around”. This consequence is probably the second most reliable thing I have witnessed in my 55 years of life on this planet. I think this means to be careful of what we say and how we treat other living beings whether it is human or animal. Everything has feelings, emotions, and thoughts. An extreme example of this is in current news sources out of Australia. The headlines stated “Revenge Killings of Stingrays due to the death of Steve Irwin”. Over 100 mutilated bodies of Stingrays were found only a week after Steve Irwin was apparently killed by a Bullnose Stingray on the Great Coral Reef in Australia. These fish are normally docile animals but do have a god-given self defense mechanism which is a barb on the top of their back tail which when provoked or frightened raises up along with the tail to get away and fend off predators. I don't believe Steve Irwin, an environmentalist and crocodile hunter, would have provoked this fish, but this tragic event was a freak accident. I am, however, horrified by this act of revenge on innocent creatures that normally harm nobody. What is wrong with this picture? Is this another fine example of human beings thinking before they act and blaming unjustly? Or could this be ignorance on a massive scale? What else is new, actually nothing. We do this to each other every second of every day.
I wonder whether human beings should have inherited the title of “higher intelligence” or should that title have been given to the so-called lesser intelligent creatures on this planet? Maybe it is time for things to “change” for the better before mankind, the “higher intelligence” who are running the show here on earth goes the way of another species who ran the show millions of years ago, the dinosaurs. After all, where will we run when our Earth is gone? What will our children inherit? I still have faith in my fellow man and woman, what other choice do I have? I happen to be an optimist anyway. It's just that it seems to be a little fuzzier these days. God bless our Country, Our Planet Earth, and our Union!
